GOOD MORNING

​​DESIGNING RESILIENT SCHOOLS


On November 8, 2013 the Philippines was struck by a powerful tropical cyclone, known to be the deadliest on record, that killed nearly 6201 people in the country and destroyed the homes of many. Schools are one of the primary places where people seek shelter in such times of calamity and are a priority in the rebuilding efforts that have begun.

UNCANNY LISBON


This super short ruff cut movie, aprox. 2min, was specially shot for the "Scrapland" - an exhibition that took place in Athens, April/May 2013 (theartfoundation.metamatic.gr/EN/Event/1477/ScrapLand/). It sneaks under the skirt of a Lisbon City centre dichotomy, revealing the contrast between the ancient beauty of the old town and its multicultural marginal life.

NO BORDER SCHOOL

​​SUSTAINABLE & MODULAR SCHOOL 4 BURMESE REFUGEE CHILDREN


Collaborative, community-based construction is considered to be the key. Through simple methods for untrained laborers and the use of local inexpensive materials the project seeks to demonstrate to the community how enhanced traditional building techniques provide real possibility for future building development: low cost, low tech construction that they can built by themselves, using their own resources. A simple bamboo construction system was devised through a lightweight bamboo frame and extensive onsite prefabrication of modular components,  all to be assembled in place and fitted together by traditional knot technology.

CASA DO VAPOR

The temporary cultural center, entirely built from scratch in the heart of the Portuguese fishermen’s village of Cova do Vapor, was able of welcoming and activating a very rich programme of activities and events.

HABITAT INITIATIVE MOZAMBIQUE

The Aga Khan Foundation Mozambique’s Habitat Initiative seeks to preserve and enhance the local architectural tradition, in which renewable resources like earth and bamboo are used to provide natural temperature and humidity regulation. The project’s goal is to improve upon existing building methods in order to extend building lifespan, thus addressing the challenge of providing rural communities with high-quality habitats.

CAMPUS SKOURA OASIS

The goal of this project is to renovate the primary school École Zaouia, in the Skoura oasis. The future school campus will be developed in different phases extending itself to the surrounding lots and occupying them with different functions. The mixture of developed parcels and oasis gardens stresses the concept of learning with and in the oasis.
